Q: Aren't you worried about encouraging a free-loader society?

Q: Nothing is free. What's the catch?
A: Use of the ActuallyFree.info website and the information provided is offered free of charge with no catch. It was created for educational purposes with the goal to help people get items and services for free so that they can live within a budget.

If there are any catches with the freebies listed at ActuallyFree.info, the best effort is made to describe all elements involved with obtaining that freebie. For example, the Classified Ads page doesn't describe much of a catch, because when one receives free stuff from classified ads, the only catch is revealing an email address to the person giving the item away. On the other hand, the Get a Free Gadget page gives clear details on what it takes to receive a free popular gadget, including that the person who wants to receive the item must complete offers and/or refer friends.

Q: How safe are these freebie resources?
A: All links which are manually listed by the author, i.e. links which aren't advertisements, have to follow certain criteria to be listed on this site.

Criteria for websites listed at ActuallyFree.info:
  • The site has to offer something for free
  • They are personally tried and tested by the author, OR they are clearly labeled as not tested.
  • They have a good report with SiteAdvisor.com.
  • They must be legal
  • They must be family-friendly

Although the author does his best to list free, family friendly and legal sites, it is still possible that they aren't reliable. That is why one of the first pages created was the page which lists third-party verification sites. These sites offer databases, assistance and education on how to avoid scams and spam.

Advertisements are usually listed at the top and bottom of each page or a graphic within the text. These may or may not change every time the page is accessed. Some ads are controlled by the author and some are not. Those which are controlled by the author must still be legal and family friendly to be listed on the site. See also terms for using this site.

Q: One of the sites you listed charges for the product or service. Whats going on?
A: Sometimes products and services are offered free for a period of time but then require a fee once they become popular. It was possibly free when it was listed on ActuallyFree.info but has changed since it was listed. Use the contact us form to report this and the link will be removed.

Also please note that advertisements do not usually link to freebies (some do). Banners and text ads at the top and bottom of most pages and some graphics wrapped within the text are advertisements and likely offer paid services and products for sale.
