In fact, whenever I buy anything online, I search for coupon codes for that store before I click the "buy" button.

The difference between a sweepstakes and a contest is that sweepstakes
do not require a skill or a proof of purchase. Even if a sweepstakes
requests a proof of purchase, they have to offer an alternate, equal
chance, to win if its called a sweepstakes. Contests require skill and
often a proof of purchase. Sweepstakes are different from gambling
because they do not require fees.
