Back to Free MoneyGet Paid to Recycle
It's possible to get free money through recycling if the resources are available in your local area and if you are willing to dumpster dive.
If you're not willing to dumpster dive, then recycling can still be a
way to get cash back on some of your groceries and it's good for the
environment.
Recycling resources vary greatly by location and by material. Some locations won't take certain materials. Some locations won't pay for certain materials but they might take them without charging fees. When I lived in Berkeley, CA I never had to worry about overfilling the recycling bin because scavengers would always come by to empty it before the truck ever came. They could take cans and bottles to local grocery stores and get paid for them. However, when I was in Salt Lake City, UT my wife and I were lucky to find a place that would take glass.
Traditional recycling materials include paper, plastic, tin, aluminum, clear glass and green glass. However, you may be surprised that the list includes many other items such as cardboard boxes, cell phones, computers, other electronics, batteries, compact discs, ink cartridges, etc.
Since there is such a variety of recycling resources depending on location and material, one of the best places to start looking is the Yellow Pages or Dex Knows. This will help you find out if there is a recycling center within drivable distance where you can get paid for the materials. Other resources are listed in the Directory of Resources that Offer Cash for Specific Items.
