If there is a day of the year when you can get free samples and gifts, it's your birthday! On many occasions I've received free food and free movie tickets on my birthday. Birthday freebies range from a singular small free dessert to free admission to theme parks. Some birthday freebies can be claimed on a walk-in basis by
showing your driver's license or any proof that it's your birthday.
Other birthday freebies are received when you sign up for a membership
club. Many birthday club freebies are received in the form of coupons
which you will either receive by mail or a printable coupon by
email.
Businesses benefit from birthday promotions through repeat sales and sales to friends and family. When my wife and I went out for her birthday we went to two restaurants to get free food that we could share. The food at both restaurants was so good that we wanted to go back the next day. Also when the business gives a birthday gift to one person, they position themselves to sell to the whole birthday party. If a local ice cream shop offers you a free ice cream cone on your birthday, and you take 2 friends who also happen to buy ice cream, then the shop made two sales from your birthday gift.
Birthday freebies are changing every year, sometimes getting better and
sometimes going away completely. One time my wife and I were hoping to
get a dozen doughnuts as a birthday prize since that's what the shop had given away in previous years; but when we showed up they only let us have one. I'm sure many people were sad to see the Disney birthday promotion end, during which you could get into any Disney theme park for free on your birthday.
Some good methods of finding birthday freebies include word-of-mouth, the Yellow Pages and a special Google search. Finding freebies by word of mouth means that you ask your friends and family if they know of places to get birthday freebies. Many local stores and franchises don't promote their birthday freebies at all. They simply have a standing free offer that their employees know about when people ask for it. That's why the Yellow Pages also come in handy for finding birthday freebies. Find your favorite shops, restaurants or movie theater and call to ask if they have birthday freebies before even getting in your car.
For the specialized Google search, pick the shop that you're interested in and find their official website. Then search for "
birthday" and enter "
site:website.com" and substitute "
website.com" with actual name of the website.
For example, lets say you want free ice cream on your birthday. You discover that the website for Baskin-Robbins is www.BaskinRobbins.com. You'd type in the following in Google's search:
"birthday site:www.baskinrobbins.com" See the results.
By doing this you'll find the Baskin-Robbins Birthday Club, and you'll discover that you can get a free 2.5 oz. scoop of ice cream on your birthday.
Some other key words and phrases that you can use are "birthday club", "birthday gift", "birthday treat", "birthday prize", "free birthday", "birthday freebie", "birthday give away", etc.
