The Classified Ads
Freebies from Craigslist.org and sites like Craig's List
Online classified ads are one of most overlooked sources of freebies on free sites (but certainly not here). They are arguably the best way to get freebies because the only strings attached are revealing an email address and doing a local pick-up. Sometimes scams are involved, but they can be easily avoided.
Traditionally a newspaper in print would charge for placement of classified ads. Now there are websites that offer classified ads for free. These are expanded opportunities for people who use classified ads to find a job, sell their car, or do a variety of other activities. Online classifieds have also created a new standard for community giving.
People use classified ads websites to give away items they don't need
anymore. Giving the item away benefits them because they don't have to do the work of getting rid of the
item. Its a quick and easy way to declutter. By giving the item away they also avoid using up space in a local landfill. This is a situation that mutually benefits the giver, the
receiver and the entire community.
Since most of the items that are given away on classified sites are used, there will always be those items that actually belong in the landfill. However, there will also always be situations where perfectly good items are given away for free.
Slide Show: Freebies I've Found on Craigslist
(The truck was described as "needs work but runs". The new owner of the trailer home had to prove that they had the money to move the trailer off the land where it was located. These were all found within the period of about a month using Craigslist and Kijiji.)
All free classified ads websites are a source of free advertising.
However, tangible freebies can mostly only be found on sites that are
very popular. If the classifieds site isn't very popular, then the
freebies listed will only be promotional items, like free downloads and
free invitations to seminars (non-tangible freebies). If the site isn't
well-known then people simply won't go to it to list their giveaways.
Search engine queries for "sites like craigslist" is common online because Craigslist.org is the classic example of a site where people give and get items for free. However, few sites on the internet, let alone sites which specifically offer free classified ads, compare with Craigslist.org in popularity. So sites that are truly like Craigslist are rare. Whenever those sites are found, they will be added to this page. Feel free to submit a site for review.
