Get Free Stuff by Using Google

Search for "free stuff".

Google is, above all, a search engine. If you really want free stuff, search for "free stuff" and see what comes up. You'll have to wade through a lot of junk and scams though. If you search for a free specific item, instead of "stuff", you might have a little more success.

Search for "free stuff" on You Tube.

Search for free stuff on You Tube and Google Video search to get video how-to guides. Same rule applies as for the regular Google search. If you search for "free stuff" you'll have to sift through a lot of junk, but if you search for a speicific free item, you might have more success.

Note: Advice to search for "free stuff" in other areas besides Google's Web Search, such as on You Tube and others mentioned below, is not simply "filler" content for this page. You'll find more by searching in different areas than you will with a simple search in the search engine. The search results will offer unique content posted by users (ie. real life people) and will not be the result of Google's algorithms (Google's spiders crawling the web looking for key words and backlinks).

Search for "free stuff" in and on Google Groups

When you arrive to the Google groups page, you'll find that there are two different search fields. One is to search the text that has been posted on Google groups, and the other is to search for group names. You can find free stuff by using both. Family friendly warning: searching for "free" in Google groups may reveal sources for content that are not family friendly.

Search for information in Google Books

Get free information on how to get stuff for free (someone should make a website about that). Use Google Books to find books on ways to get free stuff, free money, etc. Find the book in a library so you don't have to buy it.

Search for information in Google Blogs

Find blogs that give information on how to get free stuff. There is a benefit to searching blogs since they are updated often.

Find Government Freebies using Google's Government Search

The government offers many kinds of assistance for free, all at the tax-payers' expense. The government usually calls their freebies "assistance" or "funding", which is what you should search for. More tips for Government Freebies.

Free Downloads using Google's other speacial searches.

Get free updates, software and downloads, using Google's special searches for Linux, BSD, Mac and Microsoft.

Free Website Advertising Revenue.

Get a free website, either with Google's Blogger, Google Sites, or other free website providers, and make money with Google Adsense. You'll get about $2 for every 1,000 impressions, so make sure to use free website promotion resources.

Search for information in Google Knols

Find information on how to get free stuff in articles submitted by "experts" to Google Knols.

Search for "free" in Orkut Communities

"Communities" are basically groups for Orkut users. Sure enough there are communities of people that like to get free stuff and share information on how to get it. You must have an Orkut account to be able to search the communities. You can also get free online games and other applications. Family friendly warning: searching for "free" in Orkut communities may reveal sources for content that are not family friendly.

Get RSS feeds on iGoogle and with Google Reader

You can get updates in real time from sites that offer free stuff if they have an RSS feed. For example, Craigslist.org has RSS feeds. When you subscribe to their RSS feed you can get updated listings from the free section of Craigslist on your personalized Google homepage (iGoogle) and on Google Reader.

Get emails about Free Stuff

Set up Google Alerts to send you emails on updated "free stuff" content submitted to the web.

Not Free but still good:

You can find items for as low as $1 with little or no shipping costs on Google Product Search. Simply search for "free" or for a specific product, then on the bottom left of the page click "under $2".

Free Products and Services for Google Users:
