More Free Tips
The following free tips didn't exactly fall under the other categories so they are mentioned here.
Free Items and Goods:
Find out if any local colleges or universities have a floral design class. There are always leftover flowers that they'll probably give you for free unless the students take them home.
Go to garage sales and offer to haul away whatever is left at the end of the day. You must be willing to haul everythigng. An article at WikiHow even suggests making business cards for this so they can call you when they're done. Then you can keep what you like and take the rest to good will or have the Salvation Army come pick it up.
Check the bulletin boards in local churches, restaurants, libraries, markets, laundromats, etc. People who are not as internet savvy don't know to post stuff on Craigslist, so they post them in these places.
Start your own business. Dentists never have to pay for their own toothbrush. If you're an expert in a service, manufacturers will find you and buy you lunch so that you'll sell the product they're giving you free samples of. A pawn shop owner never pays for his own watch. A carwash owner never pays for a carwash. If you like a product, and want a lot of it for free, start a business selling that product (Movies, Surfboards, Car Parts, whatever). You'll first want to make sure that it can sell; do the research and then find a market for it. Once you're in business buying hundreds of you're product at wholesale price, then you'll never have to pay if you're just keeping one for yourself. Just make sure to charge yourself a use tax according your state laws.
Don't search for "free stuff" on Google. Well, you can if you want to, but if you're going to use Google, then search for specific items and you might get more success. Searching for "free stuff" on google will only reveal web pages that have the phrase "free stuff" written on them somewhere, and there are too many junk websites that fill up the ranks. The hidden free stuff secrets are found in other places, like Yahoo! answers, YouTube, Digg, file hosts, news and magazine websites, blogs, etc.
Become a freelance critic. If you're good at writing, then you might as well benefit from it. If you can get a place to publish you're reviews and some professional-business-letter wrtting under your belt, then you would only need to contact local businesses to let them know your're coming to try their stuff and that your reviews get published. Often they'll probably go the extra mile to make your experience a good one. The get-paid-to page lists mystery shopping as a way of getting free stuff. I've often wondered if it would be possible to research best businesses practices independently and then be a mystery shopper by private contract instead of going through an agency. Let me know if you have a source that describes someone who has tried this.
